ASK

We glorify independence.

Better pull yourself up by your bootstraps, kid.

Tell it to your therapist.

I don’t owe you my emotional labor.

I worked for my money. Scrimped and saved until there was enough for me to make it further.

You’re not entitled to anything.

Why not?

Are we not entitled to life? Are we not entitled to happiness? Do we not deserve to spend our finite minutes seconds hours doing things that bring us joy? Do we not have a right to reach out to one another? To love and be loved?

Why do we believe we do not?

I’m sorry no one helped you. You shouldn’t have had to go through that at all, but you especially should not have had to go through that alone.

And, anyway, you are not alone anymore.

I’m here.

Will you help me widen the gap in our walls? Will you help me break down the barrier?

You have not turned away yet.
